Story

Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust is a local conservation charity working to protect wildlife and help people connect with nature.

Dad was volunteer warden at Fir & Pond Woods nature reserve in Potters Bar for a number of years and spent much of his time here. He planted a few acorns which have since grown in to small oak trees and will be cared for for many years to come, a living legacy which is will provide a home for nature for many generations. He was also very proud to be part of the group to plant a new population of Scarce Tufted-sedge at Fir & Pond Woods, this extremely rare sedge was found in 1 site in the whole of the UK (in Hertfordshire). Since then, it has been carefully cultivated and brought back from the brink of extinction and now 4 new sites (including Fir & Pond woods) have been repopulated with this endangered plant.

John was passionate about nature and caring for the environment and his enthusiasm for connecting people with nature was evident during the work parties he ran at the woods on a regular basis.

Your kind gift in memory of John will make a real difference protecting nature for future generations.
