Story
I’m swimming 500 lengths in 5 weeks to raise funds for the brilliant team at the Haematology ward - Oldham Hospital. (Northcare Charity)
I have a incurable condition called Hemochromatosis. Every week the team drain my iron out, pint by pint. They have limited resources and do a great job and making each visit a good one. In 6 months they’ve helped me so much. This is my way of giving back
Haemochromatosis throws up many complications if not diagnosed and treated early. Having been born with the C282Y mutated gene, the iron has built up over many years (56!). Diagnosed in Feb 2025 the race began to get the rust out. Too much iron damages your liver, heart and pancreas, and hips! You basically rust from the inside out. Swimming has become my sanctuary to manage the symptoms
I’ll be swimming at the Norton Grange Hotel.
Your support can make a difference to people who rely on this ward. Ranging from, chemotherapy patients, blood transfusions, and Hemochromatosis.
My goal is £500 for 500 lengths in 5 weeks and hopefully be at maintenance level of 50mg of iron too!
Challenge Dates 22nd September - 20th October
Please sponsor me to spur me on — and stop me from rusting away!
