Story
This year I’m taking part in the Bristol Half Marathon to raise money in aid of the Sussex Bat Group.
I'm a big big fan of our winged mammal friends, they play an important role in our ecosystem, they're very cute and some have some serious sass!
This is why I became a volunteer bat rescuer with the group. This means I help respond to reports of injured or grounded bats and where I am able to rehabilitate bats. Sometimes the bats I rescue are too injured for me to rehabilitate and require specialist care at the Sussex Bat Hospital which is run by one very dedicated woman in her house.
The bat hospital sees a great number of bats come through it's doors (177 in 2025!!) Some with injuries and some too young to care for themselves. Caring for the bats treatment, sustenance and rehabilitation can be quite costly and that's why I'm raising money to sid Sussex Bat Group.
If you'd like to know more about Sussex Bat Group, here's the link: https://www.sussexbatgroup.org.uk
By running 21.1km, I’m hoping to contribute in a different way to a cause that means a great deal to me.
If you’re able to donate, I (and our batty friends) would be very grateful. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help support bat rescue and rehabilitation across Sussex.
Thank you for your support.
