So many questions, who, what , where, when, why???
Let's start with the why.
20 years ago my mum, Judith and her sister, Connie passed away, both within a couple of weeks of each other.
My mum, having battled cancer previously succumbed the 2nd time it came calling. At the age of 53 she saw both of her children grow up but then missed my brothers wedding and the birth of both of my children.
Connie, a career nurse spent her last few months caring after my mum before passing away suddenly and unexpectedly a week or so before my mum. She too missed the birth of her granddaughter Lily and many other events.
My heart always then go out to both Alison and Joan, who lost 2 of their sisters in such close proximity of each other.
Who is next up.
Joining me are 3 others, Owen, Mark and Chris.
Owen, one of Connie's grandchildren was still a baby when she passed, had this ride mentioned to him and immediately volunteered to sign up. Im not sure he has quite realised what he has got into but we are happy he is joining us.
Chris and Mark, 2 of my best friends and cycling buddies realised straight away I would need help on the journey and volunteered for the ride.
Then that leaves me, I've been thinking about this for a few years and decided that the 20 year anniversary was the year to go for it and fundraise.
Which leads me onto the what (same as where)
I needed a challenge and we came up with a humdinger.
Both mum and Connie were born and raised in Bolton before my mum left to go to university in Hull, where she met my dad.
So we are cycling from Southport to Hornsea and then back to Bolton.
Distance, about 500km in one giant loop (almost)
When,
Not too hot. Not too cold. And hoping for not much rain.
We start on the 9th May in Bolton and arrive back in Bolton a week later on the 16th May.
So the charity, North West Cancer Research. We knew it needed to be a cancer charity as we would love to play out part to help others.
North West Cancer Research targets the cancers which affect the North West of England doing good research to help in the battle.
So thats it in a nutshell but I will be updating this with more info over the next few months.
