Story
In April 2024, Judith, aged 54, received an unexpected breast cancer diagnosis following a routine screening through the Northern Ireland Breast Screening Programme at Downe Hospital, designed for women aged 50-70. Like many facing such news, Judith was suddenly immersed in a whirlwind of appointments, treatments, and emotional challenges. It was during a visit to the Ulster Hospital that she first encountered Action Cancer—a moment she now regards as pivotal in her healing journey.
Action Cancer's VISION is A future where cancer risk is reduced, cancers are detected early, successfully treated and the people impacted are supported and empowered. Their MISSION is that Action Cancer is a Northern Ireland charity dedicated to saving lives and supporting people through cancer awareness, prevention, detection and support.
Inspired by their mother’s experience, Judith’s daughters, Maria (25) and Madeleine (22), have committed to supporting the charity by signing up for Action Cancer’s brand-new fundraising event—the Marbella Walking Festival. Their goal is to raise funds so more people like their Mum can benefit from the charity’s life-changing services.
To further support this cause, the sisters are organising a Musical Coffee Morning on 3 August 2025. Maria, a harpist since age seven, will perform alongside their talented friend Mia. Maria has performed at weddings and events across Ireland, England, and Australia, and after studying music in Derry and training as a music teacher in England, she specializes in harp instruction. Mia, who studied music for four years in Derry, enjoys intimate acoustic gigs and is currently recording music with renowned songwriters. Together, they look forward to sharing music that uplifts and supports Action Cancer’s vital mission.
