On 17 September 2023, I'm swimming 7KM in the beautiful River Wye near Symonds Yat, to raise money for SARA - The Severn Area Rescue Association, a brilliant volunteer lifeboat and inland search and rescue charity, with 7 lifeboat and rescue stations along the length of the River Severn.

I have been swimming regularly for the past 5 years and have come to love the joys of outdoor swimming. While I have mastered and love winter swimming (down last winter to 1oC - see the photo in the gallery, i'm the one in the green hat!) i have primarily been a social swimmer and never done a distance event before and it has required some training. I'm really looking forward to it and raising money for SARA.

I am also committed to clean rivers and sea to improve habitats. The river Wye has been in the news lately due to its declining water quality thanks to the run off from millions of chickens farmed in the river catchment. I will match donation up to the first £250 for https://www.wyeuskfoundation.org/ which is a rivers trust that improves the ecology, habitat and water quality of the river Wye and the nearby river Usk.
