Story
What's the connection between wing walking and the Society for Underwater Technology? Hmmm.... not obvious is it? Indeed what is the connection with wing walking and Bil Loth who was well known as a 'classic car' man - rebuilding them and enjoying them to the full.
I've opted to wing walk with looping the loop thrown in for good measure (having done an initial wing walk that's me above) because I want you to feel scared for me and give generously (I am also raising money for the Anthony Nolan Trust as you will read if you look at my other active fund raising page https://tinyurl.com/3wh5pxh6 - that's in memory of my son Charlie Henderson)
Bil and I do have one thing in common - we've both been President of the SUT (me using my Judith Patten name). Bil left a lasting impression.... he was a passionate believer in education at every level; inspiring the next generation of subsea engineers internationlly. His passion led to him being the leading light in creating a superb SUT book for children - many I know have received a copy of 'Can a Lobster be an Archaeologist?'.
Bil was known euphemistically as ‘the godfather of subsea engineering’, certainly in the UK. He came over here from the US – he worked for Esso before it became ExxonMobil - at the end of the 1970’s to work on the landmark Underwater Manifold Centre (UMC) with Shell.
He brought his family and never left. After the UMC project, he stayed working within the Shell organisation on a number of other leading edge projects, before he went off on his own at WD Loth & Co.
He did pioneering work on seawater hydraulics and was very interested in education. Taught in Singapore, Newcastle, RGU, Cranfield as well as the subsea engineering courses that were run by Steve Sasanow.
You can read more about him and the grant for Doctorial students on another JustGiving page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bil-loth
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the SUT. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
