Jules' and Jen's 60th Birthday: Fundraiser for Lloyd Cowan Bursary

Jules Sankofa is raising money for Lloyd Cowan Bursary
In memory of LLoyd Cowan
The Lloyd Cowan Bursary was set up in memory of Lloyd Cowan MBE, who believed that no one with sporting potential should be held back by a lack of support and opportunities. The Bursary awards grants of up to £500 once a year to qualified coaches and unfunded athletes aged 16-23, for whom cost is a barrier to accessing developmental opportunities in athletics. Lloyd was an international athlete before hanging up his spikes and becoming one of the UK’s most successful coaches. He guided many leading British sprinters, including World, Olympic and Commonwealth 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu and European and Commonwealth 110m hurdles gold medallist, Andy Turner. Tragically Lloyd died in January 2021, aged 58, after contracting COVID-19.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are blessed to not need presents as part of our birthday celebration. Instead, we'd really appreciate you making a donation to LCB, a charity that is very close to our hearts.

As you might know, athletics forms a big part of our family life. Our youngest son, Kimani, is currently studying for his masters degree at the University of Georgia in the US, on a two-year full academic and athletic scholarship. What's more, as we write, he ranks number 3 in the world in his event [high jump], with a recent clearance of 2.31m.

His many accomplishments have not come without hard work, much sacrifice and of course, expense. However, he has been lucky enough to not only have the family, but also a community network that has been able to fully support all that he has needed. There are many who are not so fortunate and we, along with LCB, fully acknowledge that.

Our request that you donate to the bursary is one way in which we can give back to athletics in general and perhaps in a small way, help a future champion to continue to peruse their dream.

We thank you in advance; see you soon,

Jules and Jen😄☺️
