Story
I’ve been running for almost 10 years now and have a few races under my belt, but this will be my first ever marathon — a huge milestone for me. With it being such a special challenge, I really wanted to use it to raise money for a charity that means something personal to me.
I’ve chosen to support Wheels for All, a fantastic charity that provides inclusive cycling opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Their sessions use specially adapted bikes so that everyone, regardless of physical or learning ability, can experience the freedom and joy of cycling.
One of my cousins, who is autistic, attended a session with Wheels for All. No one thought she would really be able to ride a bike, but the volunteers were so patient and encouraging. By the end of the session, she wasn’t just riding a bike — she also spoke, which is very rare for her. Wheels for All helped her achieve two incredibly special things in one day: riding a bike and finding her voice.
I’ll be running the Manchester Marathon alongside other members of Birkenhead Park Running Club, including a fellow marathon first-timer, and every mile will be for the amazing people and volunteers at Wheels for All.
Wheels for All is a national charity that provides inclusive cycling opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. At our Birkenhead Park hub, we offer specially adapted bikes, handcycles, and trikes so that everyone – regardless of physical or learning ability – can experience the joy of cycling.
Every donation helps keep these sessions running and gives more people the chance to get active, have fun, and build confidence.
