The David Nott Foundation was established with a simple mission: to provide surgeons and medical professionals working in the most hostile environments with the skills & the confidence to save more lives. At the frontlines of these crises are the doctors and medical professionals who work tirelessly, often against the odds, to help victims and preserve life. Yet in countries where resources are scarce, and access to equipment and training is limited, these doctors are left to face the most challenging of circumstances, ill-equipped and unsupported.

Our daughter Hetty works for the Foundation. She has helped bring training to doctors and nurses in Ukraine and will shortly be managing a project for Palestinian doctors.

I am taking part in the Atlas Mountain Race and would like to use the opportunity to raise funds for the work of the David Nott Foundation. The AMR is a fixed route, unsupported, single-stage cycling race from Marrakech to Essaouira. It is 1,300km long and 29,400m of elevation (that's 3.3 x Mount Everest) and I hope to be at the finish in 8 days or less.

I will also match all donations up to £4,000 with a donation to the Cosmic Charity. The medical staff supported by the Children of St Mary's Intensive Care Charity saved the life of our eldest daughter, Maddy, when she contracted meningitis almost 25 years ago. We are forever grateful.
