Story

Thank you so much for taking time to visit my JustGiving page

As some of you will know, I take time out every 3/4 years to take on an extreme charity challenge - and during the whole of the month of October this year I am going to be taking on the Snowman Trek in the Himalayas and raising funds for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation

The Challenge

Described as “the toughest trek on the planet”, the Snowman Trek in Bhutan stretches for some 350km across the roof of the world and crosses some of the most challenging and breathtaking terrain in the Himalayas.

Over the course of four weeks I will be traversing through 11 remote Himalayan passes at altitudes ranging between 3500 and over 5000 metres - all with the support of a team of sherpas, mules and yaks.

The trek is being led by Adriana Brownlee, the youngest woman to have climbed all 14 8000m peaks, and Wayne Hoyle, a former special forces officer who co-led my successful Last Degree expeditions to the North Pole and South Pole in 2018 and 2021

The Snowman Trek is a path less travelled and a unique challenge that I am looking forward to with a mix of excitement and trepidation - more people will summit Everest in 2025 than will successfully complete the Snowman’s Trek!

Why Laureus

I am also proud to be taking on this challenge in aid of Laureus Sport for Good, a charity founded under the patronage of Nelson Mandela that uses the power of sport to transform the lives of young people around the world. Sport inspires, breaks down boundaries, builds relationships and trust, and provides purpose and focus - things I have seen with my own children.

I have an autistic son whose confidence has been transformed through horse riding, swimming and sailing. My youngest daughter has discovered the joy of teamwork and a sense of partnership through embracing dance and competing in ballroom at uni. Another has found focus and passion through boxing. And yet another of my 5 fabulous children who suffers from cerebral palsy and wears splints has trained himself to a point where he has successfully completed 50km charity walks for charity and is always looking for the next challenge!

Laureus uses sport to drive positive change and last year saw the Sport for Good foundation support almost 300 programmes and initiatives across 36 countries that impacted over 250,000 children and young people. And more than 50 per cent of the participants were girls and young women

This trek will push me way out of my comfort zone but it is nothing compared to the daily challenges many young people face.

So I am delighted to be giving my all during October to Laureus Sport for Good and all that they do for so many young people globally
