London Marathon 2026 · 26 April 2026 ·

At Hitched Communities we co-design person centred programmes, shaped by those with lived experience so our work can support people to fulfil their potential in society. Our current programmes include: - Street Angels (Chester and Birkenhead) - This initiative focuses on community safety and support in the night-time economy, which includes street sleepers, victims of crime and those affected by substance misuse. - The Mountain Pass: Based in Birkenhead, this is a mindfulness walking initiative led-by and for people in recovery from substance misuse. It complements local rehabilitation services by promoting resilience, self-efficacy, and connection through nature-based activity. - Made On My Patch: A garden allotment programme, inviting people with similar lived experience to learn how to plan, produce and enjoy food grown in shared spaces. Run by local volunteers, with current locations in Tranmere, Wallasey and Eastham, we hope to expand further across the Wirral in 2026.

I’m running the London Marathon this year to support a cause that means a great deal to me – Street Angels Birkenhead, part of Hitched Communities.

While many people are heading home at the end of a night out, our volunteer team is just getting started. Between 10pm and 2am, we’re out on the streets of Birkenhead supporting the night-time community – helping anyone who needs us.

That might be someone who’s vulnerable, injured, lost, or simply needs a bit of reassurance to get home safely. It might be someone who has had too much to drink, someone separated from friends, or someone with nowhere to go at all.

We also encounter people facing homelessness, and in those moments, even a small act of kindness – a hot drink, a conversation, or just being seen – can make a real difference.

This is all done by volunteers, giving up their time to make the streets safer and to look after others when they need it most.

Although I don’t have a formal charity place in the marathon, I wanted my run to mean something beyond the finish line. Every mile I run is for the people we meet on those streets, and for the volunteers who show up week after week.

Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly to supporting Street Angels Birkenhead and the work of Hitched Communities – helping us continue to be there for those who need us most.

Thank you so much for your support 💜
