Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

You may remember reading my story in 2024. If not here’s a quick recap.

I am embracing life as a cancer survivor!

10th jan 2014 I was diagnosed with BC which had spread to my lymph nodes. I underwent a lumpectomy and a lymph node removal followed by a treatment plan which was gruelling chemotherapy for 5 months and an adjuvant radiotherapy every day for 6 weeks.

Last year I ran the GNR with my beautiful family for the charity Breast Cancer Now. I was at my fittest and most healthiest I had ever been and wanted to give something back to a worthy charity who help people just like me. We raised an astonishing £3000 we were so proud and so very grateful for all of your donations! Thankyou!

Fast forward to August 2025.

I’ve tried to write this over 100 times it gets no easier. So here goes… It’s so ironic that last GNR I was at my fittest and the healthiest I had been in a very long time. If only I knew then what I know now.

The last 8 weeks for me have been the most difficult and challenging weeks of my entire life. I have been both mentally and physically exhausted . I thought nothing would come close to 11 years ago being diagnosed with BC however it has. 4 weeks ago I was diagnosed with metastatic BC ( not to the breast). To say this was a shock is an understatement! I’ve had to make some of the hardest decisions of my life. My days have been filled with hospital apps, bloods, scans, biopsies and only 5 weeks ago I had major surgery. It hits harder the second time round, it brings back the initial fear, the uncertainty and new anxieties. I have an amazing health care team they are the best who are worth their weight in gold I will be forever grateful. They have developed a treatment plan for me which will be put into action in 10 days time.

Of course Sunday 7th September GNR25 will be such a bitter sweet day for me!!

I had always planned on doing the GNR with Scott but work commitments have prevented him to do this and fortunately for me my best friend and biggest supporter Michelle whom I couldn’t have got through these last 8 weeks without (never mind the last 28 years) has stepped in. Thankyou shell for loving me the way you do with your big big heart. (some might say Shell agreeing to run 13 miles with me on 14 days notice is total madness but not for this superwoman. ) Training has been limited for us both, the last 10 weeks I have been unwell and Michelle has had only 14 days notice. However I am determined to do this and have been given the go ahead from medical experts and of course im in very good hands (Michelle).

We have chose the same charity as last year Breast Cancer Now it seems only fitting. This is just a snippet but this is their vision. If you sponsored me last year then read this, this is where your money is going how amazing?!?!

Our vision is that by 2050, everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live – and be supported to live well. But to make that happen, we need to act now.

If we don’t do something, we won’t be able to make sure that everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live.

ILast year, we expanded our support services for people affected by both primary and secondary breast cancer.

To date, we’ve invested over £299 million in world-class research.

We support over 350 of the brightest minds in breast cancer research.

We’ve supported people affected by breast cancer for over 50 years

I am now living with secondary breast cancer. I want to live for as long as possible, and as well as possible. I remain happy, optimistic and positive and with the love, support and encouragement from my family and friends I will get through this again. I’m ready for another emotional and exhausting journey and just taking each day as it comes. So let’s do something amazing let’s see if we can match the amount we got last year if not more, for an incredible cause and an incredible charity. Thankyou from the bottom of my heart. this little warrior isn’t giving up EVER!

Much love

Julie
