I have had to put my update here as updates only allow a certain amount of words. So if you are looking at this page for the first time please take the time to read 'My Story' at the bottom of this post!
Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to all those that have already donated and in advance to any perspective donators.
I have just returned from visiting Jarjeer in Morocco and felt I needed to let you know about the extensive work that refuge continues to undertake.
In short, Jarjeer continue to be the first port of call for anyone who has seen a need for any donkey, mule or horse, however big or small. Whilst the regular donations continue to come in and go a long way in keeping the animals well fed, the growth of the refuge as far as building work etc is a struggle at the pace it needs to be done. It has been agreed that the workload would be made far easier, more cost effective in the long run and less time-consuming should the men have a tractor/digger and type machine to help. However, the initial outlay for the machine far exceeds the funds that the trust could spare without taking away the much needed funds to cover the costs of food, medicine and vets bills! In light of this I have decided to up the anti… so as to speak, to raise as much money as possible towards the cost of a tractor for the refuge.
I have also, for personal reasons, had to change the date of the challenge and it will now take place over the weekend of 20th July. This will give me more time to train and more time for you lovely people to donate…. I will keep the page open for as long as it takes to help Jarjeer get the equipment they need!
Take a look in the Gallery as I have put some more pics in there... the first one is 'Julie' 5 years on, she is so happy and healthy now thanks to all the love and care she is getting.
Don't forget to follow Jarjeer on Facebook, Instagram or YouTube for updates!
My Story..
Where do I start…. My sister Lizzie and I love walking, love creation and love being out in the fresh air, which is why we decided to do attempt the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge (24 miles in 12 hours) We are not doing this as part of an organised group… we’re going it alone! We arranged it ages ago but I recently thought that maybe we could help a charity that holds a special place in my heart…Jarjeer Mule and Donkey Trust. I have known Susan and Charles personally for many years but I got to truly appreciate the love they have for the animals when I first visited them in Morocco in 2016. I spent my days with the donkeys… helping to muck out and feed them and the evenings being looked after by Charles’ lovely cooking and listening to the fascinating stories behind Jarjeer. When I next visited I met Julie, my namesake. Julie could hardly stand when I met her, it was heartbreaking, but with the love and care she was given it wasn’t long before she was back on her feet. Anyway I’ve cut a really long story short but I urge you to look at the website and read Jarjeers story….
Also follow them on Facebook and Instagram. You will see why I want to help in any way I can, their story so far and their vision is so amazing!
Jarjeer is the only charity I know where literally 100% of the donations go towards the care of the animals. Susan and Charles do not earn from the charity at all… in fact for many years they used their pensions to feed the animals and pay the local villagers their wages.
I’ll be visiting Jarjeer in May before I do the walk so I’ll post some pics of me Julie and her baby (who’s not a baby anymore’) The cover photo is of me and Julie in 2018
