More research to beat SCAD
Campaign by Beat SCAD (RCN 1164066)
Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) is causing healthy people to suffer a sudden heart attack or cardiac arrest and doctors dont know why. Beat SCAD are funding research to find answers and save lives.

Story

I’m sure most of you will know that in 2018 I had a heart attack caused by SCAD, a serious heart condition that can occur in seemingly healthy younger women and less often in men, those affected are often the last people you would expect to be at risk of having a heart attack.

This year I will be celebrating my 60th birthday, which to be honest at the time of the heart attack I wasn’t certain that this day would come , so rather than a birthday gift I am asking for a donation towards funding vital ongoing research.. this is a condition that is poorly understood so any donation, no matter how small will help towards a greater understanding of not only what causes this but how best to identify and treat those at risk.

When SCAD strikes, it can be life-changing and in some circumstances it can be fatal. It is critical that we find out what causes SCAD.

Thank you for taking the time to visit this page and I hope you can join me in the celebrations on 16th August

Julie xx

SCAD survivors are supported by an incredible team of researchers in Leicester at the Glenfield Hospital & NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, led by Dr David Adlam (https://scad.lcbru.le.ac.uk/).

Beat SCAD is working to raise £25,000 to support the PhD project of Dr Anju John, Clinical Research Fellow, working alongside Dr Adlam.

Beat SCAD is a patient-led charity that launched in 2015 to raise awareness of SCAD, support SCAD patients and their families, and raise funds for research to find answers about this condition.

Thank you for your support!
