In memory of Mum

Jump from a plane soaring at 11,500 or 15,000 feet above the Lancashire countryside. This is a once in a lifetime experience and a thrilling way to raise funds for Wigan & Leigh hospice!

Story

Why am I throwing myself out of a plane at 11,000 feet...?? When I get wobbly legs thinking about being at the top of Blackpool Tower even??

Many of you know almost a couple of years ago Mum got very poorly, the technical term was a `hemorrhagic stroke`, or in simple terms, a bleed on the brain. She was in hospital for over 4 months before she eventually came home to spend her final weeks being cared for. Wigan and Leigh Hospice were a lifeline and came to us as a family at a time we really needed them. I really didn`t know much about what the hospice did, I thought it was a place where someone goes to spend their final days. I was so wrong.. they are so much more. They were our go between who supported mum, and us as a family, directing us, informing us of every step we needed to take to ensure mum was looked after in the best possible way in her last few months with us. Nothing was too much trouble, home visits, emotional support, respite care, so as a family we had some time for ourselves, they sorted medication requests, liaised with mums GP...they were at the end of the phone for our every need. Many of the Hospice in your Home team are qualified nurses or healthcare assistants, but many are also volunteers. Because of them, mum was able to pass away at home and not in a strange surrounding with no guarantee we would be with her. As it was.. we all were...

When this opportunity came up, I just thought.. do you know what... I need to do this.. for mum.. for the hospice... I don`t expect much from any of you.. I will be grateful for anything, and every penny helps! I know times are tough.. my event is the 21st of June so plenty of pay days until then. If you can`t give now.. bear me in mind over the coming months.. I will remind you all by posting regularly so I won`t let any of you forget! Hopefully I will raise enough money that will support another family like mine in what are the worst days any family could experience.
