The YMCA Day of Giving is a chance to change the trajectory of a child’s life through youth development programs at the Y!
The Y has always been a source of community and strength for me. As a teen looking for lifeguard training, I knew I could get quality education and certification at the Y. That summer I was well equipped to keep kids safe around water. I was 16 years old.
Over the years, I've found community in Group Exercise classes, Youth sports leagues, and now as a staff member at the Brace Family YMCA. When you give to the Y you multiply your dollars in life changing ways. I have the privilege of watching those dollars build confidence, integrity, and fortitude in folks from every age category and walk of life.
I'm most impressed with our YScholars program for a couple reasons. First of all, kids come to YScholars when they are in middle and high school because the traditional school system can't meet their needs. Sometimes this looks like a learning challenge that needs more attention that the school can provide. In some cases it is the social pressures of being different or not having the social skills needed for a large school environment that brings kids to our program. Some families want the freedom to travel or pursue goals that don't fit with a traditional school schedule. We meet those needs and many more! It is a tapestry of cultures, ideas, and experiences that makes YScholars a very special place to learn and grow. We've developed a program that meets families right where they are and allows everyone to participate in a unique learning experience. All are welcome and the results are truly amazing.
My family has been blessed with many opportunities through the Y and I'm humbly asking you to donate any amount to continue this powerful work. If you can give $1 or $100 to help us reach more kids in need I promise we will multiply that gift with hard work and dedication. Thank you in advance for coming alongside the most vulnerable with your support.
There are many issues facing our community, but thankfully the Y is uniquely positioned to help meet many of these needs. In 2024:
• The Y will provide over $2 million in financial scholarships for programs like preschool, afterschool and summer camp.
• Over 3,000 children will be served with literacy instruction through programs like Y Readers, which is offered at no charge to participants.
• Over 1,500 children will receive swimming lessons at affordable rates for their families.
Thank you!
