Story

Most of us spend our lives hoping we’ll never need an oncology unit.

Then one day, someone you love does.

Last year, my sister (Fidelma, Fee aka The warrior) became one of the people who did. What followed was a masterclass in expertise, kindness, patience and humanity from the team who looked after her. They delivered the treatment, of course. But they also did something much harder to quantify: they made an impossibly difficult time feel manageable.

In February six tough tough months of chemotherapy was followed by a double mastectomy and Fee received the all clear in March ❤️❤️ In

May she completed 2 * 5km walks- did I mention she also has 2 babies (1&4)

While we witnessed first hand the incredible work of the unit - we also witnessed a frightening increase in the demand for their services over the past 6 months - they could fill twice the chairs they have, and while they continue to provide exceptional patient care funding is required to ensure the capacity to meet the demand.

This June as part of her recovery Fee is attempting 5km a day and I know she would love to raise money for NECRET along the way.

If you’d like to support her challenge, we’d be hugely grateful.

The mission of NECRET is to improve the treatment and outcomes of people with cancer by supporting cutting edge treatment and care.

We do this by funding state of the art equipment and contributing to much needed clinical cancer research. We support training to help our medical staff treating cancer patients be the very best they can be. We also enhance the support and care provided to cancer patients by the unit to make their stay as comfortable as possible.
