My super fit hero of a son Lewis had tests for abdominal pains on 16/11/22. Just 10 days later we found ourselves with an emergency hospital admission, major surgery, a tumour removal and half of his bowel too. Events moved at a meteoric pace, even surpassing the usual option to wait for a biopsy and subsequent analysis before embarking upon a treatment plan. We soon learnt he was already at a stage 4 of Burkett Lymphoma cancer, which is fast growing and aggressive. Tests showed the cancer on his liver and in his back. All this in 5 weeks.

Lewis is being cared for by a fantastic team. It is difficult to comprehend quite how amazing these people are with their care, compassion and support, not only for the patient, but also for the family.

Lewis has just started a 12 week intensive chemotherapy programme. He may be in the care of the professionals and temporarily incapacitated, but I am not. I need to do something to help and support this amazing charity having been blown away, not only by the medical and clinical expertise, but also the social, welfare and emotional support they offer both patient and the family.

As a modest way of giving back, I pledge to run a minimum of 5 miles every day for the month of January whether I am home in Bedfordshire or at the hospital in Nottingham with Lewis. Please support me in recognition of such a fantastic cause and providing the drive to keep my own sanity, using this as something of a coping mechanism whilst we venture into unknown territory.
