Story
Juliet Muir was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer on the 30th September 2022 and died on the 7th June 2023.
Leaving behind her husband Christian, and two young children Sam and Chloe.
Juliet was Senior Partner at Oury Clark Solicitors, a lawyer, a leader, a mentor, a fighter for human rights, a mother, a wife, and an absolutely hilarious guinea a minute chatter. Juliet was a force of nature.
There are very few people who would have dealt with it as she did - never grumbling for a moment - full of her usual sparkle and good chat, while making friends with the entire medical fraternity. Despite it all however, she was unable to beat the cancer.
She leaves behind a phenomenal legacy of good vibes, great thought, and true love spread around the world - that will continue to grow for years to come.
For those very kind people who have wanted to give something to honour her passing, and help others not suffer the fate she has. The family have chosen the following charity.
The Pancreatic Cancer Research Charity
Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all common cancers, and only 7% of people diagnosed survive more than 5 years. Pancreatic cancer is often called a silent disease, because people are often unaware of any symptoms until the disease is quite far advanced. Indeed almost all pancreatic cancer is diagnosed at stage 4 (as Juliet was), and the survival rate at that stage of more than 5 year, is between 1-3%.
For such an uncompromising diagnosis, the family wanted to choose a charity whose sole aim is to invest into new research into early diagnosis, new treatments and ways to make existing treatments more effective.
Funding and promoting innovative, world-class research into the disease – research that will lead to the development of more effective detection, diagnosis and treatment.
They directly fund research by offering grants to researchers in universities, research institutes and hospitals in the UK and Ireland. They also encourage the major research funding organisations and the research community to give pancreatic cancer greater attention.
The charity spends almost nothing on administration and almost all of the money goes directly into cutting edge research.
No one ever said life would be fair, but when it comes to pancreatic cancer, we must find ways to make it a little more fair than it currently is.
