Students for Shelt-Her is a group formed by students at the University of Glasgow to help raise awareness for the plight of homelessness in women across Scotland. Homelessness in women can be caused by multiple factors, including domestic abuse, lack of support from the government, drug addiction or not being accepted in their own home.

We are collaborating with Simon Community Scotland to provide artistic therapy for women suffering from traumatic and dangerous circumstances that aren't looking for financial support alone but a safe haven to turn to for food, toiletries, regular health check ups and second hand clothes to keep them warm, especially during the cold winter months.

Engaging with creative activities and spending time focusing on creating something of beauty and value has previously been a great emotional outlet for women who visit the shelter. It allows them to escape feelings of trauma, lack of confidence and the terrors of everyday life.

Students for Shelt-Her aim to offer these women more opportunity to express themselves creatively, regain their confidence and give them their voice back to tell their story, with the goal of reintegrating these women back into society to live the life they deserve.

Over the course of the next few months, women that visit the shelter will have access to art equipment provided by the funding towards our cause. This equipment -- including pastels, watercolour, paper, pencils, pens and paints -- will offer women who visit the hub the opportunity to produce work that they can choose to include in an upcoming exhibition, curated by the Students for Shelt-Her team.

The money accumulated by the sales of their work at the exhibition shall be invested back into the hub to even further benefit the livelihoods of these women and make their world brighter.
