Story
In June I’ll be doing something completely out of my comfort zone…. skydiving. 🪂
I’m taking on this challenge to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, the hospital that helps care for my daughter Faith and so many other children like her.
Earlier this year our world changed when my daughter Faith, who is just 11 years old, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease.
Since November last year Faith had been in and out of hospital while doctors tried to understand what was causing her health problems. Earlier this year we finally received the news that Faith has chronic kidney disease and will now need lifelong monitoring and care.
Faith also lives with vesicoureteral reflux, which has caused ongoing infections and health difficulties. She is now under the care of the incredible renal team at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, who are helping us manage her condition and protect her kidneys from further damage.
Faith also has interoceptive difficulties, which means she cannot always recognise signals from inside her body in the same way others do. She may not always notice or communicate pain or discomfort clearly, which can make it harder for her to realise when something isn’t right.
At 11 years old Faith should be worrying about school, friends and enjoying being a child. Instead she has had to face hospital visits, tests and ongoing treatment.
Despite everything she faces, Faith continues to show incredible strength and bravery every single day. She still wakes up smiling, goes to school and keeps going no matter what. I could not be more proud of her.
Watching your child go through something like this is incredibly hard, so I wanted to turn that feeling into something positive.
So I’ve decided to take on a charity skydive on 6th June to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, the hospital that is helping to care for Faith and so many other children like her.
Every donation, big or small, will help support the incredible work they do for children and families facing situations like ours.
Thank you so much for supporting Faith 💚
