Story
We lost our lovely Mum, June Doherty, to glioblastoma on 14th March 2025. She was cared for by the Neuro-oncology Team at Salford Royal and latterly the staff at Regency Care in Whitefield to whom our family will always be grateful.
Glioblastoma is a common and very aggressive form of cancer that impacts the brain. Mum was diagnosed mid February and passed only one month later. This is unfortunately a typical outcome for a lot of patients as the current treatment options - surgery, radiation or chemo - are not always feasible due to the location of the tumour. Even when treatment is possible, the prognosis for most patients is poor due to a high chance of recurrence.
Members of the Neuro-oncology Team at Salford Royal work as part of the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre. Their work includes initiatives to improve outcomes for glioblastoma patients, such as the development of new drugs and treatment options.
Mum always cared about others. Her friends and family know this to be true all too well - but so do people she never met who she helped by her charity donations and regular blood donations. We therefore feel the best way to honour our Mum is to support a cause that would help patients in similar situations to hers.
We would appreciate your donations to the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre in lieu of any flowers to mark Mum's passing. This is the best possible tribute to such an amazing, kind and generous lady. Thanks in advance for your support.
Michael, Martin, Angela and Karen.
We will love and miss you always, Mum x
