Story
In 2020, alongside Alzheimer’s Society I founded Sport United Against Dementia (SUAD), a campaign I Chair which is harnessing the immense power of sport to tackle dementia, the UK’s biggest killer.
Sadly, my family knows first-hand the devastating impact of dementia. My father died from the condition, and like so many families, we watched a strong, independent man gradually and completely lose his sense of self. It was an incredibly difficult journey, made easier by the support we received from Alzheimer's Society. For that, I will always be grateful.
I know many colleagues across sport, broadcasting and beyond have their own experiences of dementia, whether through family, friends or teammates. But together, we can help make a difference.
That's why I'm delighted to be launching Your Hundred at Lord's in partnership with Alzheimer's Society, and I'm asking my friends, colleagues and contacts to join me.
On Monday 28 September, alongside senior leaders from across sport and broadcasting, we'll take on the challenge of walking 100 laps of the iconic Lord's outfield: more than a marathon in a single day.
Each step will help raise vital funds to support Alzheimer's Society's work to end the devastation caused by dementia. Places are limited to just 100 participants, with everyone aiming to walk off the field a Lord's Centurion, something that all cricketers and fans aspire to be.
If you are up for the challenge, I invite you to register your interest here: https://alzheimersevents.org.uk/ps/event/YourHundredatLords
If you're unable to take part, I would be hugely grateful for your support through a donation.
Thank you
Richard
