In May 2025, everything changed for my cousin’s family.

Their three year old daughter, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. One day she was running around the garden, full of energy and laughter. The next, she was in the hospital, hooked up to machines, her tiny body learning to survive with a condition that would never go away.

Since then, every day has been a careful balancing act. Measuring food, counting carbs, checking blood sugar, giving insulin. At an age when most kids are learning their ABCs, she is learning how to live with a disease that demands constant attention.

And yet, she smiles. She plays. She faces every needle and every hospital visit with a kind of strength that takes your breath away.

But NO child should have to be that strong.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. It is not caused by sugar or lifestyle. It is random, lifelong, and right now, there is no cure.

That is why I am raising money for Breakthrough T1D. They fund the most advanced research in the world to find better treatments and one day, a cure. They also support families like my cousin’s, helping them cope, stay informed, and never feel alone.
