Story
Last year, Longtown Mountain Rescue volunteers spent nearly 4,000 hours (167 days) helping hikers, walkers, climbers, mountain bikers, horse riders and dogs in the Black Mountains area. People who were injured, people who were lost, people whose homes were flooded.
Our mountain rescue volunteers come to our aid no matter where we are, in the rain, hail and snow. They give their time and expertise completely free of charge.
This year, Longtown Mountain Rescue, my local team, will celebrate 40 years of saving lives. It costs over £30,000 a year for the team to keep operating - for the equipment and vehicles they need.
Each time they get the call, they put themselves at risk for us, yet get no government funding.
In May, my 15 year old daughter and I will be walking 40km (24.8 miles) to raise funds for the team so they can continue saving lives.
You can help make every one of those miles matter by supporting our trek. Thank you :-)
