Story
Good evening everyone,
For anyone who doesn’t know me, my name is Justine, and on the 6th of June I’ll be taking part in Step Up for Charity.
Now, I did dance when I was younger, but I haven’t danced since I was around 12 years old so this is definitely pushing me far outside my comfort zone! I’ll be dancing alongside professional dancer Graham Fox, learning a completely new style of dance, all to help raise as much money as possible for an incredible cause close to my heart , the Jaks Foundation.
The reason this means so much to me is because I’m doing this on behalf of my beautiful niece, Isla Joy, many of you may know her as part of “Isla’s Army.”
At just two and a half years old, Isla was diagnosed with cancer and began a battle no child should ever have to face. For just over two years she showed more courage, strength and resilience than most adults ever could.
Throughout that journey, the Jaks Foundation supported Isla and our family in ways we will never forget. During some of the darkest and hardest moments, they brought comfort, support, kindness and light to not only Isla, but everyone around her. They truly make such a difference to families going through childhood cancer.
When I decided to take part in this event, Isla wanted me to choose this charity to help raise as much money as possible so other children and families can receive that same support too, and honestly, that made me even more determined to do this.
On the 5th of March this year, Isla rang the bell at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after completing her treatment journey, a moment our whole family will never forget.
Now she’s preparing to turn 5 this September and start school in August, which feels absolutely incredible after everything she has been through.
What makes me even prouder is that Isla also trialled a chemotherapy treatment that could help make recovery easier for other children in the future. Even through her own fight, she helped create hope for others.
She is truly my inspiration for taking this leap and saying yes to something that scares me. Every rehearsal, every nervous moment, every ache and pain is worth it for this cause.
So tonight, I’m asking for your support. Every donation, no matter how big or small anything will help support children and families facing unimaginable battles.
Thank you so much for listening, for supporting us, and for helping us raise as much money as possible for the Jaks Foundation. Let’s make the 6th of June unforgettable. ❤️
