Walking from Land's End to John o' Groats · 28 March 2026

Mountain rescue team members are on call every day, of every month, of every year. Whatever the time, day or night. Whatever the weather. They do it voluntarily. They do it without question. At no cost to the casualty. And it's thanks to your generosity, they can continue saving lives. So thank you.

From Land’s End to John O’Groats – Finding Direction

I’m currently walking the length of Britain, from Land’s End to John O’Groats, covering well over 1,000 miles (1,600km), give or take a few wrong turns.

Somewhere along the way, this seemed like a good idea.

The plan is simple enough: head north and keep going. In reality, it’s tired legs, questionable weather, and a lot of time alone with my own thoughts.

This started after a stressful period where I felt like I’d lost a bit of direction. Last summer, I began walking in the Peak District for both physical and mental exercise, and somewhere along the way the idea formed: maybe the challenge I needed was literally under my feet.

So I decided to walk Britain end to end.

After some research, I committed. I left my job in October 2025, having saved what I thought would be enough. After Christmas, and after buying all the gear, it turns out “enough” might have been slightly optimistic. In hindsight, a few more payslips wouldn’t have hurt.

At the time of writing, I was about as ready as I was going to be; prepared, but also slightly nervous and very aware of what I’d signed up for.

Along the way, I’m hoping to take part in as many parkruns as I can. If anyone fancies joining me for a day’s walk, a stretch of the route, or a parkrun, please get in touch, the company would be very welcome. I’ll also be lucky enough to have my girlfriend Costanza join me on some weekends when she can.

I’m using this journey to raise money for Mountain Rescue England and Wales. Following along or wishing me luck is just as appreciated.

This walk is about challenging myself, finding some direction again, and seeing what happens when you commit to something just beyond your comfort zone.

Thanks for reading, and hopefully I’ll make it to the other end.
