Kaan the Conqueror’s 24-Hour Row for the Damilola Taylor Trust · 17 April 2025

Damilola Taylor Trust was established in memory of Damilola who was tragically killed in 2000 by an act of violence by two boys not much older than him. DTT is committed to providing inner-city youths with opportunity to play, learn and live their lives free of fear and violence, and optimism.

Story

Rowing for Change: A 24-Hour Rowing Challenge for the Damilola Taylor Trust

What we are doing

The Challenge: 24 Hours of Endurance, Pain & Grit

This isn’t just about fundraising—it’s about proving what’s possible with commitment and belief.

Kaan, alongside Stephen, Joe, and Luke, will row non-stop for 24 hours. That’s a full day and night, through exhaustion, pain, and mental fatigue.

💥 24 hours of relentless rowing

💥 Hundreds of kilometres covered

💥 One goal: To give young people a future free from violence

The event is being hosted by Fison Fitness, who have been inspired by Kaan’s determination to push himself beyond limits. They want to use this challenge to bring the community together and show that change is possible when people support each other.

Why We’re Doing This

Every year, 15 to 30 teenagers lose their lives to violent crime in London (Met Police). Thousands more are caught in cycles of gang culture, exclusion, and violence, with few chances to escape.

But we believe in second chances, in resilience, and in the power of change.

Our leader Kaan knows what it’s like to grow up in an area where crime seems like the only path. But instead of becoming another statistic, he transformed his life through discipline, perseverance, and community support. Now, he’s taking on this challenge to inspire others—to show young people that they can build a different future.

We’re raising money for the Damilola Taylor Trust, a charity that helps young people escape violence by providing mentorship, education, and safe opportunities. The trust was created in memory of Damilola Taylor, a 10-year-old boy whose life was tragically cut short. Today, his legacy continues to change lives for the better.
