Story

Hi everyone,
On September 14th, I am hosting a fundraiser for One In Four, where I will be cycling from Brighton to London. Cycling has always been a significant part of my life, and I wanted to utilize it for something positive.
Who are they?
One In Four is an amazing charity based in London. They support survivors of child sexual abuse, violence, and trauma. Specifically, the name One In Four highlights that one in four people will have experienced sexual abuse by the age of 18. They currently provide low-cost counselling to 155 people a week.
Why am I doing this?
Their emblem is an elephant to reference the “Elephant in the room”, due to the shame and silence that is often carried with the abuse. I wanted to use this fundraiser as an opportunity to break that silence. I am a survivor of child sexual abuse, rape, and sexual assault, who has been supported by the amazing people at One in Four. I have survived a sometimes unexplainable amount, not just as a child, but as an adult.
I am still finding my voice, and writing this, as you can imagine, has been difficult. My life has changed immeasurably during my two years with One in Four. Sharing my experience with those around me was something I realised as important to me. This fundraiser is my way to do that.
How can you support?
- Donate to this fundraiser, any amount from £5-£5000 pounds is appreciated!
- Download Easy Fundraising and support One in Four through your web purchases.
- Share the fundraiser with your friends and family!
How will the money be used?
- Professional counselling and trauma recovery services, specifically for survivors of abuse.
- Training, education, and outreach, ensuring more workers are trauma-aware and young people gain prevention tools
- Advocacy support, which helps survivors navigate reporting and legal challenges.
Thank you for taking the time to read my message and for your support of my cycle to Brighton. I understand this might be a difficult message to read, and I ask that you reach out in a respectful way.
Below is a video I made for Oliver, who has been the best therapist I could have asked for.
With love,
Kai
