Story

Calling all fans of four-legged friends training to become life-changers!

Hi, I'm Kaitlyn. Some of you may know me, but for those who don't, it is nice to meet you and thank you for taking an interest in my journey.

In April 2025, along with my partner Alex, I started my Guide Dog journey by fostering the beautiful Wyn, a spirited guide dog in training. Applying for this volunteering role stemmed from an admiration for the amazing love, work and training that goes into training a dog to become a life changer.

As some of you may know, especially if you are local, I live locally to the Guide Dog Breeding Centre and National Centre, so seeing Guide Dogs during their training, walking down the parade in Leamington, is a regular occurrence. It is apparent how much support there is, as people always stop and smile at the amazing job they do.

This exposure started a passion for supporting those with sight loss, leading me to join the Leamington Guide Dogs fundraising team. Fast forward a year from starting my volunteering journey, and I will be taking part in my first marathon, the 2026 London Marathon, raising vital funds with #TeamGuideDogs

The Guide Dogs play a crucial role in empowering individuals with sight loss, providing them with the independence and confidence they deserve.

Every day, 250 more people join the 2 million already living with sight loss. This number is set to double by 2050, which is why our work is more important than ever before, however, we can only continue our life-changing work, such as our guide and buddy dog services, mobility training, education support, sighted guides and much more with your support.

Thank you for stopping by to read my story. Your support is so special to me, and if you are able to donate towards my target, your generosity will help train four-legged life-changers for someone with sight loss.

How your sponsorship could help:

£125 could buy a starter kit for a new guide dog owner, containing everything they need to start life with their new dog.

£451 could provide the parents of a child with a vision impairment with ten sessions of support.

£1000 could pay for an entire family to attend our Family weekend, where they can access specialist support and meet other families in similar situations.

I'd better get my running shoes on and practice! You can follow my journey on Instagram @theguidedoglife
