Capital One Lake District Triple 2024 · 5 July 2024

BRACE funds world-class clinical and laboratory research into dementia to find better treatments, achieve earlier diagnosis, and, one day, find a cure. We do this by funding PhD studentships, early-stage pilot projects, and the South West Dementia Brain Bank. Together we will defeat dementia.

Story

In January 2013 I underwent complex spinal surgery - leaving me with a metal cage, screws and a large scar as a permanent fixture. After 3 months off work and learning to walk again, I felt the innate need to move.

Prior to surgery I took my health and fitness for granted, and so through a combination of running, hiking and walking challenges I've been able to prove to myself that not even a dodgy spine can hold me back!

This year I'm raising money for an incredible charity supporting those with Dementia. My nan suffered with Dementia during the last 2 years of her life, and I saw first hand the devastating impacts it had on both her and all of us around her.

This year's challenge (The Lakes Triple), is a mountain bike ride through Grizedale Forest, followed by a hike up to Old Man Coniston, and ending with a Kayak across Coniston Lake.

BRACE exists to defeat dementia.

Our aims are to help:

Provide the means by which medical science comes to understand what causes dementia in its various forms.

Achieve earlier diagnosis of dementia, thereby giving new treatments and knowledge of prevention more time to make a difference.

Find new and more powerful treatments.

Our area of benefit is the whole human race – anyone, anywhere who might one day develop dementia.

Together we will defeat dementia.
