Story
I've never done a sponsored run, mostly because my bones are made of crisps and any sort of intense exercise generally ends up with my ankles wrapped in frozen peas.
However, I'm not getting any less crispy so, riding the buzz of what I thought was a fairly lengthy run, I signed up for a Half Marathon. Turns out that 'lengthy run' was just under 5K and I'm not the elite runner I thought I was.
After panic scrolling the latest running gear and stock piling several sacks of frozen peas, I calmed down. I can do this. I need to do this.
Last year was a rough year. I lost my dad and my mum has had severe struggles with both her mental and physical health. I have seen how my nan's dementia affected my mum – at times convinced she has it, almost making it a self-fulfilling prophecy. Dementia is complex and I won't pretend to understand fully but I do know the importance of charity's like Alzheimer’s Society in helping those who have it.
My dad never got to meet his granddaughter but I hope my mum stays with us to see her grow up. She loves her 'nana', as I did mine.
