Charity Challenge 2024 for Holbrook Animal Rescue
The Event:
Challenge Update!
Unfortunately my original challenge, details below, has been cancelled by the organisers. Sadly there were not enough participants for the event so the difficult decision was made to cancel. However……….not to be deterred, I will now be completing my own event, what I like to call pier2pier. I will now be walking the coastal route from Worthing pier to Brighton pier instead. It’s not quite the feat that I had originally intended to undertake, but still a test of endurance. I shall be keeping the date the same in order to continue fundraising for this amazing cause. I’ll also be updating you all regularly with the current monthly challenges.
On the 26 - 27 October 2024, I’ll be completing a 42km trek over the South Downs to raise money for Holbrook Animal Rescue. The trek starts early evening on the 26th and overnight, I’ll be walking the downs, taking in the Cuckmere River, Birling Gap and over the Seven Sisters. The trek finishes with hopefully a not too late breakfast in Eastbourne. It’s estimated that it will take approx 10-12 hours to complete the route.
Why:
Holbrook Animal Rescue is a charity that has become an amazing part of my life. After losing my four-legged best friend of 10.5 years in 2021 (Lexi), I was somewhat lost. Having then seen a shout out for assistance from them to help with other areas of the centre, I began volunteering at Holbrook Animal Rescue. It was as though I had found what I didn’t know I was looking for. To do my bit each week helped me on my grief journey from my little girl. To be able to help just one other animal in need, meant so much to me. Leap forward 2.5 years, and the centre has now become a major part of my life and weekly routine.
Whilst I never looked for another after my Lexi went to Rainbow Bridge 🌈, I had always said I’d be there should one need me. And in March 2023, one of the centre's dogs decided to choose me as her new mum. During my shifts at the centre, she would “help” me with my chores and was often to be found hanging out with me. We’ve been together well over a year now, and Bebe is the most amazing addition I could ever have had to my life. Love you bub xXx
Holbrook Animal Rescue are currently in a position where they have to relocate due to a large housing development. Donations are urgently needed to help rebuild the centre and for the amazing work of rehoming animals that has been in Horsham for almost 30 years to continue. To keep the awareness of the trek going and to further help raise funds for the centre, I’ll be completing mini-challenges each month. I’m starting off with a target of walking 130 miles during March. I’m keeping track of this daily and will update as I go along. Other months will include,
The dance off (one month to learn and perform a dance routine set by a very special person)
The early start! Anyone that knows me is aware of the fact I am far from a morning person. This month will see me committing to getting up at 6am each day 😱
The dry one! Well, there has to be a no alcohol month in here somewhere 😂
100% vegetarian month. Whilst I almost do this anyway, I’m hoping to commit fully during this month.
Please donate what you can to this amazing cause and drop back regularly for updates.
With many thanks for your support, Kara
