Story
This year, my brothers and I are taking part in the Great North Run, the infamous half marathon in Newcastle in honour of our amazing Nan, Flossie, who has been living with the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s for many years now.
Watching someone you love slowly fade behind this cruel disease is incredibly hard — but through it all, Nan’s warmth, humour and spirit still shine through! She’s cheeky, she’s naughty but she has the most beautiful soul, one that’s been robbed of enjoying so many precious memories with her family & grandchildren.
Alongside Nan, our mum inspires us every day through her incredible work at ‘Lavender Mill’, providing a day care service for people living with dementia. She and her team create a space filled with laughter, music, dancing, arts & crafts — and the occasional trip to the pub! 🍻 Their compassion and energy bring light to so many families who need a moment of respite and joy.
We’re running to celebrate Nan, to recognise the tireless & vital work our Mum does to support those and their families living with Alzheimer’s, and to raise funds for the vital work such as ‘
Lavender Mill’ that helps families like ours every day. Any donation, big or small, means the world — and helps bring us closer to a future without this heartbreaking disease. 💜
