Story
On Sunday 31st January 2027, I am taking on the grueling London Winter Walk, a full 26.2-mile marathon, to raise vital funds for Dementia UK. This winter challenge tracks across London's historic bridges, starting and finishing at The Oval Cricket Ground. Every single penny raised helps their specialist Admiral Nurses provide life-changing emotional, practical, and medical support to families facing dementia. Please support my marathon walk and help ensure no family has to face dementia alone.
The Reality of Dementia: The Facts
Dementia is not just a normal part of aging; it is a critical health crisis. Here is why your support is desperately needed right now:
UK's Biggest Killer: Dementia remains the leading cause of death in the UK, accounting for over 11% of all annual deaths.
1 in 3 Affected: One in three people born today will go on to develop dementia in their lifetime.
Rapidly Rising Numbers: Nearly 1 million people are currently living with the condition in the UK. This is projected to surge to 1.4 million by 2040.
Young Onset Dementia: It does not just affect the elderly; over 70,000 individuals under the age of 65 are living with young-onset dementia.
Unpaid Carer Burden: Millions of family members are left to cope alone, with unpaid carers saving the UK economy billions each year while navigating immense emotional strain.
Why I am taking on this challenge?
Walking a full 26.2-mile marathon in the dead of winter is going to be a huge physical and mental battle. However, it is nothing compared to the daily challenges faced by families living with dementia. The diagnosis can feel incredibly isolating and devastating. I want to use my feet to make a real impact on Sunday 31st January 2027, pushing through the winter miles to help secure a compassionate lifeline for those navigating this condition.
