Story
COME WITH KAREN
Hi Everyone...Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving
page and reading about the adventure I embarked upon earlier this
year to raise funds for Alzheimer's Scotland and Oban
and Lorn Dementia Support Group and help the fight against this
disease.
Born on 18th April 1944, I challenged myself to visit as many
Museums: Historic Environment Scotland sites: and National
Trust places in Scotland; during the year between April 2023 and
my 80TH BIRTHDAY in April 2024.
This will test my energy, planning ability and methods of travel
because my targets include places as far North, South, East,
West and in between AS I CAN MANAGE.
My reasons for doing this challenge are heartfelt; I too have
lost precious people to this disease and I really want to raise
money to help slow it down.
In April I researched the thirty-three local government counties in
Scotland for accredited Museum/s and Museums, Historic
Environment Scotland sites and National Trust places.
then using a map of Scotland I considered the overall personal
achievability … and pressed the Green Light!
To date I have now completed 80 visits including East Lothian, the
Scottish borders, Orkney Islands, Outer Hebrides, Peterhead
and many Scottish cities and towns.
So far The RAF Museum of Flight, North Berwick was seriously
impressive, Scapa Flow Museum, Orkney Islands most
emotive, The Riverside Museum of Transport and Travel in
Glasgow stirred up great memories while The Museum of
Scottish Lighthouses in Fraserburgh is awesome. Fantastic visit
this week to The National Football Stadium Museum
at Hampden Park for publicity to help further fundraising for my
challenge on behalf of Alzheimer's Scotland.
I am compiling a journal of my visits, on what has
become an interesting, challenging and memorable
adventure in this my 80th year... for a worthy cause.
Regards from Karen B.
