Walk of Life 2026 – In Memory of Clive ‘Napper’ Miles
On the 30th of May, exactly one year since losing Dad, I am taking on the challenge of walking the entire length of the Kennet & Avon Canal in 7 days, totally 94 miles. Raising as much money as I can for the Intensive Care Unit in RUH Bath.
Join the Napper Army by donating and then -
-> Your name will be put on my t-shirt so you're with me on the walk!
-> Let me know your favourite song and it will go onto my walk playlist!
-> If you want to track me on the walk I'll be giving out details nearer the time.
Where and Why
Starting in Reading and passing through Woolhampton, Hungerford, Pewsey, Devizes, Bradford-on-Avon, Bath and finishing at the iconic floating Harbour Bristol.
I am raising money specifically for the Intensive Care Unit in RUH Bath, who treat over 1,000 critically ill patients annually. The dedication and care from ALL staff was exceptional when Dad was admitted there following a complication with chemotherapy. We were witness to the specialised environment and equipment used; there was no limit to what they would try. Staying overnights with my Dad I witnessed first-hand the way this all works, I naively thought everything went quiet and people slept through the night, but no, this is 24/7 dedication. We will be forever grateful for the compassion shown to him and us…and the humour when we all needed it.
We didn’t get to bring Dad home but there’s never been any doubt of their commitment to try, and if one day in the future you have to use/ visit somebody in this unit I hope in a small way that this fundraiser will help, by giving the continual financial support they need.
I will be giving updates along the way and have some great friends/family who are going to tag along with me on some of the route. Dad and I walked Snowdon together a few years ago and I know 100% that he would be polishing his walking boots and doing this with me if he could. To be honest it will be what keeps me going, thinking of him. It will be nothing compared to what he bravely went through.
Thank you so much for reading and I will appreciate any donation. Dad would think it's cool too.
Thank you,
Karen xx
