Marathon Fundraiser for Shetland Care Attendant Scheme

Team: Team fundraising for Shetland Care Attendant Scheme

Nice - Cannes Marathon · 9 November 2025

SCAS employ Care Attendants to go into carers homes to look after their loved one/dependant so that they can have a well deserved break from their caring role. The carers can use this time as they wish: catch up on sleep, have a rest, get their shopping, meet friends or attend appointments. Carers’ health and wellbeing is improved greatly from having a regular break to look forward to and enjoy with peace of mind that their loved one/dependant is being kept safe and well looked after. The ‘cared for’ people also benefit from this as it greatly improves their health and wellbeing by seeing someone different, having more social interaction and if they are able, our Care Attendants often take them out into the community for a drive in the car, or to café’s. Anyone can refer a carer to us or carers can contact us themselves for support. Our fundraised monies and donations are used to pay towards the services we provide. We cover all areas of Shetland.

Story

Craig Smith, Maurice Fraser, Karen Fraser and Karrie Fraser are participating in the French Riviera Marathon which runs from Nice - Cannes on 9th November 2025 to raise funds for Shetland Care Attendant Scheme (SCAS).

Shetland Care Attendant Scheme (SCAS) is a local charity dedicated to supporting unpaid carers across Shetland by providing respite breaks in their own homes.

Trained staff step in to care for loved ones, giving carers the chance to rest, recharge, and enjoy some well-deserved time to themselves — all while knowing their loved one is safe and supported.

This service makes a real difference to families, helping carers continue to care for their loved ones at home, in their own communities, for as long as possible.

💙 Every penny raised stays in Shetland and goes directly towards supporting unpaid carers in our local communities.

Your support helps SCAS continue this vital work.
