Hundreds of runners will be taking part in the London Marathon 2026 to raise funds for St John Ambulance, the charity that picks you up, dusts you down, and gets you over the finish line.

Story

Let’s talk about running and mental health. My daughter Sophia’s health is in a very scary place. Being a full-time carer for someone with very complex needs and with a very poor quality of life is all-consuming and exhausting. Feelings of frustration, helplessness, anger, grief and isolation are a daily occurrence and that takes its toll emotionally and mentally. Running helps me in so many ways. It gives me time away and the space to work through problems, or to not think about anything medical and just listen to a podcast, music, or the sounds of nature. I feel much more able to cope with what’s ahead when I’ve been for a run. I’ve been running and racing for over 20 years but obviously get to do a lot less of it these days. So far, I’ve managed to hang on to doing the London marathon. The focus, structure and process of training is important to me and the race itself holds so many precious memories, especially of my sister Anne-Marie who we lost to suicide 6 years ago. I miss her so much.

This year I will be running it to raise money for the St. John Ambulance, the charity that steps forward in the moments that matter, to save lives and keep communities safe.

We’ve all seen those lovely friendly First Aiders on the side of the road at races, dishing out Vaseline and encouragement, caring for the injured and providing vital emergency stretcher and ambulance support. As well as events they also offer first aid (and mental first aid) training & supplies and provide life skills for young people. I hope you can help me to hit my fundraising target by donating to help the lifesaving work they do. Thank you.
