Walking from Worcester Sangha to Birmingham Sangha , 13 May 2023
We've outgrown our building. Right now dozens are waiting for a space on each retreat, and many more would come if they were able. We want a bigger retreat centre so that we can run retreats for at least 60 people and house a community of 12.

Story

Women all over the country benefit from retreats delivered by order members.

The retreats we benefit from are delivered by our Order Members who train through the Tiratanaloka Centre. There is a bottleneck because they have outgrown the current building.

My aspiration along with my Deal TFO group (Gerry; Bryony) and the Worcester and Birmingham Sangha's now Devon too ! is to reach as many women as possible and enable them to contribute and know they were part of the providing this new centre for women Training for Ordination.

Every £1; £5; £10 + is gratefully received and has equal merit to the cause.

I will be walking from Worcester Sangha to Birmingham Sangha approximately 30 miles along the canal and cities over 2 days. Following a serious accident 31 years ago i had back surgery and a hip replacement so currently i have not walked longer than 2 hours for many years - but up for the training and challenge !

I will be joined by Alice from Birmingham and Rafael, as well as some others from the sangha for some legs of the journey. Alice has recently asked for ordination so it's personally very important her at the start of her ordination journey, but also Alice grew up in Bromsgrove which is the midway point of our walk. For her it's a pilgrimage from her past, into her future.

Why £1 as a starting point? I was inspired by a story of an Indian woman that started a food kitchen, the basis was that everyone could give something and help others, giving everyone self worth and the opportunity to be both generous and connected to the cause. I think that fits well with the ethos of Triratna.

It will be approximately 77,000 strides ! That is circa 0.06p a stride and £1 gets 15 strides !!

Two very cute dogs will be helping me train too ! Tara my Shihpoo and Bertie my housemates Pugapoo !

Thank you for your support and sharing this with friends :-)

About the campaign

We've outgrown our building. Right now dozens are waiting for a space on each retreat, and many more would come if they were able. We want a bigger retreat centre so that we can run retreats for at least 60 people and house a community of 12.

About the charity

It's all about friendship: helping women in their journey towards ordination into the Triratna Buddhist Order. We are a Buddhist community living together, running retreats and supporting each individual in the deepening of their Buddhist practice.
