We are aiming to raise £50,000 for a memorial tree in the grounds of Lancashire Women and Newborn Centre (LWNC) at Burnley General Teaching Hospital, in remembrance of babies who have died.

Story

For the last 10 years, we have been supporting families through baby loss and difficult pregnancies, across East Lancashire. To commemorate 10 years, we knew we had to do something extra special.

We are aiming to raise £50,000 for a memorial tree in the grounds of Lancashire Women and Newborn Centre (LWNC) at Burnley General Teaching Hospital, in remembrance of babies who have died.

The 4-metre-high blossom tree sculpture which we are naming the Tree of Life will give bereaved parents, their families, friends and anyone affected by baby loss, a calm, peaceful place to reflect and remember their babies.

We are hopeful that the Tree of Life will be in place during Baby Loss Awareness Week and will be the focal point for the hospital’s annual Wave of Light ceremony on October 15 this year, and in the years to come.

To reach that all important target, we are asking you to join in the Tree Pose Challenge – take a photo of yourself doing the yoga tree pose, post in on your social media using

Friends of Serenity aims to preserve and protect the health of sick pregnant women and those who have suffered a miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death in particular but not exclusively by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities, Serenity Suites and equipment at East Lancashire Women and New Born Centre not normally provided by the statutory authorities. We work hard to support newly bereaved parents through the provision of memory boxes and miscarriage keepsakes. By dressing their babies we hope to make distressing and devastating time a little more comforting by taking the pressure off them. These are provided in East Lancashire and throughout the country on public requirement. Additionally, we strive to provide qualified information by any means appropriate on the 2nd most common chromosome disorder Trisomy 13.
