I am Karen and I am the Head of Nursing for Children’s Services.

I have been nursing in children’s services for 24 years and my journey as a nurse started in a neonatal unit where day one I was tasked to care for triplets. It was such a joy to see a miracle and a privilege to be part of the beginning of life for three beautiful babies born into the world. I never looked back and that day realised working in children’s services was my dream job.

I went on to train as a children's nurse and started as a qualified nurse in paediatrics at Luton.

I have seen some ups and downs but I am passionate about ensuring that babies, children and young people have gold standard care and my career in management flourished as I realised I wanted to ensure that I could be a key player in making a difference for all of Children’s services.

The new building will be instrumental and the final piece of the cake and will offer a gleaming purpose built environment for neonates requiring intensive care, and offers facilities for their families to help them through the difficult times.

The new unit also offers purpose built facilities for children and young people requiring surgery.
