Hackney Half Marathon 2023 · 21 May 2023 ·
About 6 months ago, I decided to make the big move across the pond from Sydney to London, and during that time, through a mixture of coincidence and kismet, I came across the London Buddhist Centre nearby. Learning more about Buddhist meditation I came across the Sanskrit term Metta Bhavana, which means "loving kindness" and is the meditative practice of cultivating gratitude and compassion towards others through one's own mindset of abundance. Reflecting on this daily practice, I'll be running the Hackney Half Marathon in support of The Felix Project!
Their mission is simple - to take surplus food from their suppliers and deliver it to any charity that helps feed people in need. It's all nutritious and would otherwise go to waste. Not only that, but it helps fight food poverty and reduces costs for hardworking organisations.
Right now, millions of people in the UK regularly experience hunger. Yet tonnes of surplus fresh food is thrown away every day. No one should have to miss a meal. Every human being deserves to feel cared for. A small gesture like getting them food shows that there are people that care for them. A simple act of kindness that has the ability to create ripples that may turn into a tidal wave!
I'll be running the Hackney Half Marathon with my fellow Googlers Jasmine and Keeza. Google will make a donation match to double every £1 raised so your donation makes double the impact! There is no amount too big or too small. Any amount you are happy to donate is very much appreciated. Or even come and cheer us on in Hackney on the 21st May. :)
Thank you for your kind support!
400 thousand children in London and 1.4 million adults are food insecure. Meanwhile, in the UK we waste almost 10 million tonnes of food every year. The Felix Project exists to fight this problem.
Every penny donated by you will stop good food from being wasted and get good food to Londoners in need - including children & families, the homeless, the elderly, domestic violence survivors, refugees and more.
