Story
November last year bore me a ‘zero’ birthday. In celebration I figured I would like a completely different challenge and entered the Lakeland 50.
The Lakeland does what it says on the tin. Fifty miles from Dalemain to Conniston over rocky paths and grassy fells with some technical descents. Oh, and 3100 metres of ascent.
I’m a yoga teacher. I’m quite fit but I have never in my life tackled anything like this. The training has been joyful, may not have been enough but spending so much time on the coast path was never a hardship. But it’s all new so I have no idea if I can walk 50 miles.
I am now in the ‘tapering’ phase of training - who knew?! So for a couple of weeks I get to rest, eat a lot and think long and hard about my choices.
I have thought long and hard about my charity. We are all one sliding door away from being in need. I have been afraid in a relationship and many women still are. Any donation to the Women’s Centre will go towards helping them move on so they too have the opportunity to follow dreams.
