Story
Thank you so much for being here.
Many of you know my lovely mum was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer on Easter weekend. We had just been on holiday without a care in the world, to then be told she possibly only had a few months left to live. My mum has taken the news with grace and bravery, being grateful for the wonderful 64 years she has lived.
As a lady who has always cared for everyone but herself, she has struggled to accept the care she now needs. We have been let down by various services, but have got through it with humour, love and working together as a family. As we come towards the end of my mums journey only 2 months after diagnosis, we found ourselves struggling for the help we needed. With some bad hospital experiences, we took my mum home to care for her. It was incredibly tough, and it wasn’t until St Luke’s got involved that we felt a huge weight lifted.
We are now in a side room at the hospice, my mum is being cared for with love and compassion, we are able to stay with her so she isn’t alone and scared at night.
St Luke’s is the only glimmer of light we’ve had throughout this whole journey. This place runs off of charity and donations, and my family would like to do what we can to show our gratitude - and hopefully help other families access this wonderful service.
I am going to run the Worksop half marathon in October, which is a huge thing for a girl who loves sitting down and has never ran in her life (and who is yet to start training 😅). Any little you can donate would mean the world. Thank you
