Karen ‘moose’ Kell Story:

This page is for our truly amazing Mum, wife, nana and friend to many. Mum had the greatest sense of humour, kind to all, selfless and was a big kid at heart. Mum cared so much for her family, we were her world and she spread that love to anyone who had the pleasure in knowing her.

In the beginning of October 2025, Mum was admitted to hospital for a fractured hip, after investigation, the cause of this was Secondary breast cancer which was in her pelvis, shoulder and a bit in her lung.

We found out that this type of cancer was treatable but not curable. As a family this shook us as this wasn’t the first time, as mum was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2017. Mum said, “ I’ve done it once I can do it again” , this showed how much strength she had and took anything in her stride.

After being discharged from hospital, and due to start cancer treatments and just getting back on her feet again from the fractured hip. Mum was back in hospital with pneumonia, again she overcame this fighting back. However, mum noticed that she couldn’t see as well anymore, the doctors did further tests and found that the cancer had spread to the brain and heartbreakingly nothing more could be done.

Mum was then given a place at trinity hospice. On the first day of arriving, which was understandably very overwhelming. It was so calm, supportive, and made us as a family happy that mum was comfortable (she was already making the nurses laugh too! )

Trinity hospice would accommodate anything, from bringing our cat Tywin in, to bringing the bed outside so mum could feel the sun on her face, to having an early Christmas as we didn’t know what the next day would bring. Taking care of our family, and just being there when we needed someone to talk to or a shoulder to cry on.

Mum never was by herself, always had me (Georgina) or my dad staying with her on nights, and many family and friend visits everyday. Mum was so loved💓

Mum fought for nearly 4 weeks since first being admitted and to the very end with all her family surrounded, holding her hand, mum was never alone, always had a smile on her face, always showing how much she loved us. Mum passed away peacefully on Saturday 10th January 2026.

We couldn’t of done this without trinity hospice, through the darkest time of our lives, they were there guiding the way, one step at a time making my mum comfortable in her last weeks of life and to that we are forever grateful.

To show this we as a family are running in memory of our mum in the beaverbrooks 10k fun run on Sunday 10th May 2026 to raise money for the wonderful trinity hospice and would love (if you can) to have your support. Some members in this family (including myself) don’t run, so this will be a challenge!

Thankyou for taking the time to read our story and for all the continued love and support❤️

we love you mum❤️
