Story
For 14 years, Sue was part of the heartbeat of Karenza. 14 years of dedication, commitment, and quiet strength. But when we think about her, it isn’t just the length of time that stands out, it’s the way she filled that time. She didn’t just come to work; she made a difference. Every single day.
She had a warmth about her that people were naturally drawn to. The kind of warmth that made you feel at ease, that made difficult days feel lighter, and ordinary days feel brighter. She greeted people with sincerity, treated everyone with kindness, and never made anyone feel small or overlooked.
So many of us will have our own memories of Sue. The small conversations, the shared laughter, the moments where she offered help without being asked. She had a generosity of spirit that can’t be taught. It was simply who she was. Whether you had known her for years or only a short time, she made you feel like you mattered.
Her role as a carer for men living with dementia showed the very best of who she was. This kind of work takes patience, compassion, and a deep understanding- and she gave all of that, every single day. She didn’t just care for them; she brought comfort, dignity, and kindness into their lives. She built trust, offered reassurance, and created moments of calm and connection in what can often be a confusing and difficult world.
And it speaks volumes that those men she cared for are truly gutted that she is no longer there. That says more than anything else ever could. It shows just how much she meant to them, how deeply she was valued, and the difference she made- not just professionally, but personally, in the lives of those who depended on her.
Sue was also someone you could rely on. Dedicated, steady, and thoughtful in everything she did. She took pride in her work, and that pride showed- not in grand gestures, but in consistency, care, and quiet excellence. She was the kind of person who made things better simply by being there.
Over those 14 years, she became a really important part of the team. Not just through her role, but through the relationships she built. She was part of our daily lives, our routines, our conversations. And that’s why her absence is felt so deeply. There is a space now that cannot be filled in quite the same way.
But while we feel the sadness of that loss, we also carry something lasting. We carry the example she set. The kindness she showed. The patience, the decency, the simple humanity she brought into every interaction. These are things that stay with us, shaping how we treat one another moving forward.
Thank you for the years you gave.
Thank you for the care you showed.
Thank you for the laughter, the support, and the quiet moments of understanding.
