Story

I’m excited to share that in April 2026, I will be taking on the huge challenge of running the London Landmarks Half Marathon! This incredible event is not just about running 13.1 miles through the iconic streets of London, but to do this in aid of my chosen Charity, Acorn Villages Limited.

The reason why I have chosen this charity, is not only that I have worked there for the last 7 years, but being involved and I get to see first hand the service we provide. I couldn’t set myself a challenge that represents charities and not complete it for the charity I work for and a service that I believe in, which has been running for the past 50 years.

For me personally, I wanted to set myself a challenge on something that is not normal for me. I am the most unfit person! My friends and family held in a laugh when I said I had applied for both the Marathon and Half Marathon. Now reality has set in, I am pleased it was only the Half Marathon I was accepted for, as the nerves I am feeling about this is something I’ve never experienced! This will be a huge challenge for me and I will have to push myself to the limit to train and complete it.

The service we provide for the individuals here is something I am really proud of. Acorn Village really is like a family, where everyone is happy and living their best lives. When they come to live here, they are here for life where they have a home that is safe, happy and they feel free.

Acorn Village has the ethos of ‘Life is for Living’ and ‘People First Disability Second’ which you get the feel of as soon as you come here. You witness the care and support all the residents and tenants receive. There is never a dull day working alongside these individuals, who can bring you out into laughter no matter how stressful the job gets.

Also, the staff who work here are the best! They really make this service what it is today. They treat the individuals like their own families. Always showing Person Centred Care towards each and every one of them. They promote their independence and encourage them to achieve their goals.

I am very proud to be working at Acorn Village alongside the individuals who live here and the staff who work here. When I do this Half Marathon it will be for them as well as myself, which will give me the push to carry on!

I would love to have your support, and your encouragement will mean the world to me! I truly believe that with your support, I WILL cross that finish line stronger and more inspired than ever and all for a worthy cause.

Thank you for being a part of my adventure, and I can’t wait to share this experience with all of you!
