Story

Every woman deserves to feel safe, valued and free from fear.

One in four women will experience domestic abuse at some point in her lifetime. On average, two women are killed each week in England and Wales by a current or former partner. These are more than statistics — they are stories, lives, and futures that matter.

For me, this cause is personal.

I grew up in a home where domestic violence was far too familiar. While I don’t want to go into detail, it’s something that has shaped the way I see myself and how I’ve allowed others to treat me. Although I’ve never experienced physical abuse myself, I know how easy it is to overlook emotional abuse, gaslighting, and manipulation. Many women — myself included — have found themselves excusing behaviour that slowly chips away at our confidence and self-worth.

That said, I’ve also been fortunate. Along the way, I’ve had some truly kind and supportive people come into my life who have helped me grow and reminded me of what healthy, respectful relationships can look like. Their presence has played an important part in my healing.

But I’m still learning. Healing isn’t a straight line. There are moments of strength and moments of doubt — and it’s in those in-between spaces that I’ve come to realise how important it is to raise awareness, build support, and offer hope to those still finding their way.

Refuge is the largest provider of specialist services for women and children experiencing domestic, sexual, and gender-based abuse. They also run the freephone, 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline — a critical first step for many in escaping abuse and starting again.

By sponsoring me, you're not just supporting a charity — you're standing with every woman who is fighting to reclaim her voice, her safety, and her sense of self.

We, as women, are resilient. We are capable of growing through our pain, learning from our past, and becoming the strongest, most compassionate versions of ourselves. We must be our own best friends, sisters, and mothers — lifting each other up every step of the way.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
